Reiki self treatment - my mind wonders
I am sharing this reiki self treatment because during the session I found my mind wondering and it was hard for me to remain present. It happens to everyone. During these times, try not to get frustrated. Try to bring yourself back to the breath. No matter how many times you find your mind wondering. Try to stay in it. Try listening to the sounds around you, moving from one sound to the next as you hear them. Be proud that you stayed in it, even when you found it hard.
Session 20 mins
Really hot all over the body. Intense heat radiating from both hands. My feet were tingling. At the start I saw lots of vivid colours. Red mainly. Not shapes just red, like the sun shines on closed eyelids. I noticed that my breathing was a little erratic. I couldn’t find a natural rhythm, my heart seemed to be pounding. My mind continually wondered during the session. I found I was constantly bringing myself back to the breath, as thoughts whirled in my head. I repeated ‘do not anger’ as I could feel my frustration mounting. At one point I even found myself wondering how long I had left.
Once the 20 minute timer chimed, I was however, grateful that I had persevered. It would have been easy to get up and walk away, and potentially remain in a frustrated state, at myself for not seeing it through. I found gratitude in the commitment to my practise. Even when I felt I was getting little out of it, it was my persistence that was the lesson learnt here.
